Barnes & Noble Expansion with 60 New Stores in 2025

Barnes & Noble, the largest bookselling chain in America, has announced it will open 60 new bookstores in 2025. This comes after adding 57 stores in 2024. With this growth, they will have more than 660 locations in the U.S. This shows that the print book market is still strong.

The increase in bookstore sales shows bigger trends in the U.S. book market. In 2024, the industry saw a rise of 7% in revenue, reaching $12 billion by October. Print books still hold the lead. October print book sales were $846 million, which is ten times the sales of eBooks. Since eBooks are still a smaller part of the market, problems like Kindle eBook download issues may keep some readers sticking to physical books.

Contributing to this growth, the romantasy genre, driven by popular authors like Rebecca Yarros, is raising demand with many preorders. At the same time, for eReader fans, tech advancesโ€”such as Amazon adding in-app buying for Kindle eBooksโ€”are changing the digital reading world. The new features of physical stores and devices show a strong commitment to improving the overall reading experience. This is happening even as new options like the TCL NxtPaper 4.0 start to change e-paper technology.

For fans of books and eReaders, this change shows a strong commitment to the in-person bookstore experience. This comes at a time when reading is moving more toward digital formats.
