Who it’s for
The entry-level Kindle Kids is perfect for young children aged 3–7 who are just getting into reading. If you’re exploring more low-cost options, check our full Best Budget-Friendly E-Readers guide, and at $179.99 it’s the easiest option to justify as a first e-reader.
At $229.99, this is the best value of the three for most families. Waterproofing alone is worth the upgrade for kids and 12 weeks of battery means you’re never hunting for a charger.
Who it’s for
The Kindle Paperwhite Kids is the best all-round option for children aged 8 and up especially avid readers who read for longer stretches. The larger, higher-resolution screen and exceptional battery life make it a significant step up.

Kindle Kids vs Paperwhite Kids vs Colorsoft Kids: Which One Should You Buy?
All three include a kid-friendly cover, an Amazon Kids+ subscription and a 2-year worry-free guarantee, so the choice comes down to your child’s age, the screen and your budget. For a first e-reader, I’d start with the Kindle Kids. For a child who already reads a lot, the Kindle Paperwhite Kids adds a bigger, waterproof screen and twice the battery life. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids only makes sense if color really matters: comics, graphic novels and illustrated books.

How Long Do Kindle Kids Deals Last?
Amazon rarely announces an end date. Kindle discounts tend to come and go without warning, with the biggest price drops usually landing around Prime Day, back-to-school season and Black Friday. For the standard Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft, our Kindle deals page checks each price against its 30-day low.
The prices on this page update automatically, so what you see above is the current Amazon price. If a model shows a “was” price, it is discounted right now.
Prices and availability can change at any time, so check the final price on Amazon before you buy.
