Rakuten Kobo just rolled out a pretty major software update for its e-readers, and honestly, it feels like a big step up from their usual playbook. Normally, they’d only update the newest models, but this time they’re giving some love to all their devices. It’s nice to see them looking out for everyone, not just folks with the latest gadgets.
So, here’s the scoop: they’re using different version numbers depending on your model. If you’ve got a Kobo Libra Colour, Kobo Clara Colour, or Kobo Clara BW, you’re getting version 4.41.23145. Older models are getting version 4.38.23171 instead. Kinda smart, right? They’re tailoring the updates to match each device’s abilities while still making the whole process feel consistent. Here’s a fun little perk for those with the Kobo Libra Colour: you can now wake up the device from sleep mode just by pressing any page-turn button. If that sounds handy (or maybe annoying), you can toggle it on or off by heading to Settings > Energy saving and privacy. Kinda odd that they didn’t roll this out for other models with page-turn buttons, but who knows, they might add it later.
